PRODUCER PROFILE
The Franco Conterno estate is a family affair. The estate’s oldest vines were planted by Pietro Conterno before he passed the project on to his son Giacomo, who later passed it on to his nephew Franco. Now, the day-to-day operations in the vineyard and winery rest firmly in the hands of Franco’s two sons Andrea and Daniele. The pair spearheaded the transition to organic viticulture and received organic certification in 2015. Andrea’s energy shows in the wines, which are only getting better and better. They represent a well- executed and harmonious dichotomy, between tradition and modern thinking and practices.
VINEYARD & VINIFICATION
Manual harvest, with grape selection at the vineyard. Very steep, hardly workable and rich in clay soil. Must and skins are kept in contact for 15 days, on which alcoholic fermentation takes place, and punched down daily. Ageing in cellar: the wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels (2030 hl capacity) for 24 months. Ageing in bottle: 12 months.
