TASTING NOTES

Bright and inviting, this Rosso di Montalcino shows vibrant red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry aromas, lifted by notes of dried herbs and a hint of rose. On the palate it is fresh and graceful, with silky tannins and lively acidity that highlight its purity of fruit. Subtle spice and earthy undertones add depth, leading to a clean, elegant finish. A beautifully balanced expression of Sangiovese, both approachable and refined.

PRODUCER PROFILE

Founded by winemaker Andrea Cortonesi, Voliero is a boutique project based in Montalcino, Tuscany. Unlike his celebrated Uccelliera estate, Voliero focuses on higher-altitude vineyards in the northern part of the appellation, where cooler temperatures and rocky soils bring freshness, finesse and lifted aromatics to the wines. Dedicated to a pure expression of Sangiovese, Voliero produces limited quantities of Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino, combining traditional craftsmanship with an elegant, terroir-driven style that highlights balance, vibrancy and authenticity.

VINEYARD & VINIFICATION

The vineyards, aged 10–30 years, are planted at 3,000–4,000 vines per hectare on sandy-clay soils over 350 metres above sea level, with south-west exposure. Crafted from carefully selected Sangiovese grapes reclassified from Brunello-designated plots, the wine undergoes a 15-day maceration in stainless steel at low temperature with frequent pump-overs, followed by malolactic fermentation in steel. It then matures in Slavonian and French oak casks before a minimum of five months’ bottle ageing. The result is a vivid expression of the terroir, delivering freshness, purity of fruit and elegant balance.
