PRODUCER PROFILE
Certified Cape Mentelle was one of the original five wineries founded in Western Australia’s Margaret River in 1970 by David Hohnen. Cape Mentelle is recognised not only for its commitment to quality, but for its adherence to organic viticulture. The team at Cape Mentelle share a love for the land and a deep commitment to sustainability. Cape Mentelle is also a certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia. Their flag ship Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced primarily from the original Wallcliffe Vineyard, is now widely regarded as one of Australia’ sleading Cabernets.
VINEYARD & VINIFICATION
The typical soils of these vineyards are geologically ancient, free draining sandy loams with a high percentage oflateritic gravel. The fruit is mainly destemmed with several lots having a small percentage of whole bunch inclusion, the berries lightly crushed to a combination of open and closed fermenters.
